About the challenge

Welcome to Design Hacks, our first hackathon experience hosted by the Seneca Software Developers Club! This challenge is to design and develop an innovative and visually stunning website for our club. Your mission is to create a platform that fosters a sense of community and collaboration among Seneca's software developers.

You'll have the freedom to work at your own pace, leveraging your creativity and technical skills to bring your ideas to life.

Get started

To embark on this exciting challenge, follow these detailed steps:

Form Your Team:

Collaborate with 2 to 5 current Seneca students who bring diverse skills to the table. Ensure you have a good mix of designers and developers to cover all aspects of the project.

Register Your Team:

Fill out the registration form. Make sure to include all team members and contact information. Remember, you can edit your registration anytime before the deadline (June 28th, 11:59 PM) to make any necessary changes to your team composition.

Start Hacking:

Begin your project on June 24th at 9:00 AM. Work asynchronously, using version control systems (Git and Github recommended) to manage your code and keep track of changes.

What to Build

Create a website for the Seneca Software Developers Club that reflects creativity, functionality, and user engagement. Here are some key points to keep in mind when you build your hack:

  • While the main emphasis is on the frontend, if your backend significantly enhances the user experience, showcase it as well.
  • We want a design that not only looks stunning but is also implementable. Submit a working codebase to demonstrate its feasibility for a live website.
  • This is more than just designing; it’s about shaping an engaging interface. Ideal for both designers and developers to bring the design to life.
  • You have the freedom to create as many pages as needed. Whether it’s a single page or ten, ensure it represents the club’s essence and is scalable.
  • Use the club’s design palette and pay attention to details. Refer to the rubric for judging criteria.

Submit Your Project:

Ensure your final project is ready by June 30th, 11:59 PM. Check Submission Requirements for more details. Double-check that your website meets all the requirements and functions as intended.

Celebrate Your Efforts:

Join us for the Winner Announcement and Prize Distribution at Seneca College Newnham Campus (Room K2100A on Friday, July 5 at 05:00 PM. This will be a great opportunity to showcase your work, receive feedback, and celebrate with your peers.

Food and drinks will be served and all club executives will be there in person to network with you.

You can also win additional prizes by participating in our in-person mini-events that we will be hosting on the same day.

By following these steps and focusing on both the visual and functional aspects of the website, you’ll create a remarkable platform that truly represents the Seneca Software Developers Club.

Good luck, and we can’t wait to see what you build!
